    • Don Bosco Museum: a seven-storey museum of Northeast tribal life in Mawlai, about ₹100 for Indian adults.

    • Shillong Peak: the highest point in Meghalaya (about 1,965 m), inside an Air Force station. Carry photo ID.

    • Laitlum Canyons: a ridge-top view over deep gorges, 23–25 km via Smit. Go early in the morning for the clearest view.
    • Rapleng Canyon Waterfall: a quieter gorge a few kilometres from Laitlum, about 23 km from Police Bazar.
    • Mawphlang Sacred Forest: an ancient Khasi grove 25 km out, entered only with a local guide (about ₹350 for a short walk).
    • Mawkdok Dympep viewpoint: the valley view and zipline on the Sohra road, 25–30 km away.

    A one-day Shillong sightseeing plan

Morning: Laitlum Canyons before the cloud rises, then Rapleng if you like quiet places. Late morning: Elephant Falls and Shillong Peak in Upper Shillong. Afternoon: Don Bosco Museum, then Ward's Lake (not on a Tuesday). Evening: Police Bazar for food and shopping. Umiam Lake is easiest on your arrival or departure day, as it is on the Guwahati highway.

A car and driver for the full day costs from ₹4,560, fuel included. Entry fees are paid in cash at each gate.
