Overview
About Sweet Falls
Sweet Falls, known locally as Kshaid Weitden, is a slender plunge waterfall on the outskirts of Shillong, close to the Happy Valley area. The water falls in one unbroken drop of about 96 m (315 ft), which visitors often compare to a column of water pouring from a pipe. The surrounding slopes are covered in pine and scrub, and the fall is at its fullest in and just after the monsoon. It is often described as one of the most beautiful and also one of the most dangerous falls around Shillong. The path towards the base is steep and poorly made, there have been many fatal accidents and suicides here, and local belief holds the place to be unlucky. Because of this, visitors are not permitted to go close to the fall and reports on current access vary; most people view it from the top. The main reason to come is the view of the tall, narrow cascade against the forested gorge, combined with other nearby sights on a half-day outing from the city.

Best Time to Visit
October to November
Monsoon (June to September) gives the strongest flow but also slippery, risky paths and frequent mist. Post-monsoon (October to November) is the best balance of good water volume, clearer skies and drier ground. Winter (December to February) is cool and dry, with a thinner stream. Spring (March to May) is pleasant though the flow is moderate. Go in daylight, ideally in the morning, avoid visiting during or right after heavy rain, and stay well back from edges.
