About this trip
Nongjrong, a Khasi village in East Khasi Hills, 54 km from Police Bazar, is famous for winter sunrises over a sea of clouds. Seeing it means reaching the viewpoint before dawn, which means leaving Shillong at about 2:35–3:10 AM depending on the month.
After sunrise and tea, the car continues 35 km (about 1 hour 25 minutes) on the Jongksha–Mawkynrew road to Laitlum Canyons, one of the best views near Shillong, and returns to Shillong by early afternoon, leaving the rest of the day free.
Best from October to February, especially November to January. The cloud sea depends on the weather and is not guaranteed; on a foggy morning we check conditions with you before setting off.
