About Phe Phe Fall
Phe Phe Falls is a two-tiered waterfall near Shkentalang village in West Jaintia Hills, south of Jowai. The river drops over rock ledges into deep, clear pools that turn blue-green in the dry months, and the surrounding forest and bamboo make it one of the better-known waterfalls in the Jaintia Hills. The falls sit below the road, so reaching them takes a short trek down through bamboo groves and forest, with steps on parts of the trail and sometimes a river crossing. Paradise Adventure Camp, a riverside camp near Shkentalang, is the usual starting point and has cottages and tent space for people who want to stay overnight. Visitors come for the colour of the water, a swim in the calm pools in the dry season, and a quieter setting than the waterfalls around Sohra. It pairs well with a Jowai day trip or an overnight stay in the Jaintia Hills.

October to April is the recommended window: the trail is dry, the water is clear and the pools are at their bluest. Post-monsoon (October to November) still has good flow. Winter (December to February) is the clearest season, but the water is cold. In the monsoon (June to September) the river is high and muddy, crossings can be unsafe and swimming should be avoided. Leave Shillong early and start the walk by late morning, so you are back on the road before dark.
