About Krang Suri Waterfall
Krang Suri (also spelt Krangshuri) is a waterfall in West Jaintia Hills, about 1 km from Amlarem and around 30 km from Jowai. The falls drop into a wide natural pool whose water turns a clear blue in the drier months, clear enough to see the stones on the bottom. It is one of the best-known waterfalls in the Jaintia Hills. What sets it apart from the big Sohra waterfalls is that you can get close. A stepped path leads down through forest to the pool, and in the dry season visitors can swim with a rented life jacket or take a short boat ride towards the curtain of water. Because it is a long drive from Shillong, Krang Suri is usually done as a full-day trip combined with nearby Phe Phe Falls and Jowai town. The Nartiang monoliths are another common add-on in the same district.

Walk: A paved, stepped path with handrails runs from the parking area down to the falls through forest. The climb back up is the tiring part, so wear shoes with grip. Pool: A large plunge pool at the base; the water is clearest and bluest between about October and May. Swimming and boating: Life jackets are available for rent, and short boat rides near the falls run in the dry season, both charged extra. Facilities: Parking near the entrance and picnic spots; food options are limited, so carry water and snacks. Carry a change of clothes if you plan to swim.

Post-monsoon (October–November) and winter (December–February) are the best months: the pool is clear and blue, the steps are drier and the weather is cool. Spring (March–May) is also good and warmer, which suits swimming. During the monsoon (June–September) the falls carry far more water, the pool turns murky, swimming is unsafe because of strong currents and the steps get slippery. Late morning to early afternoon, roughly 11 am to 2 pm, is when sunlight reaches the pool and the colour shows best.
