    Day-by-day plan

Drive times are door to door in normal traffic; add time in the monsoon. The trek day can be swapped for a rest day or a second Cherrapunji day if anyone in the group cannot manage the steps.

    Why this order works

Sleeping two nights in Sohra puts you at the Tyrna trailhead by 8 AM on trek day, before the heat and the crowds, and saves two long drives from Shillong. The night by the Umngot River lets you take the Dawki boat early, when the water is calmest and clearest, and Krang Suri sits on the way back via Jowai, so nothing is backtracked.

    What 7 days costs

The car is the fixed part: ₹4,560 a day for a Dzire (up to 4 people), ₹5,760 for an Ertiga (up to 6) and ₹6,600 for an Innova (up to 7), the same on every route, with fuel, tolls and the driver's costs included. For 7 days that is ₹31,920, ₹40,320 or ₹46,200.

Hotels are the variable part: roughly ₹1,500–3,000 a night for a clean mid-range room, more in the peak weeks of October–December. Add entry fees (small, cash), the Dawki boat (about ₹500–800 per boat) and a trek guide (about ₹500–800).

Changes for the monsoon and for families

    • June–September: swap the Dawki night for a second Sohra day (the river is brown and boating may stop) and keep a spare day for landslides.
    • With elderly parents: skip Day 4's trek and visit the Riwai root bridge on Day 5 instead; stay in Shillong all week.
    • Short on time: drop Day 6 and you have the 6-day plan.

    Frequently asked questions

Is 7 days enough for Meghalaya?

Yes. Seven days covers Shillong, Cherrapunji, the Double Decker root bridge, Mawlynnong, Dawki and Krang Suri at a comfortable pace.

How much does a 7-day Meghalaya trip cost?

The car with driver is ₹31,920 for 7 days in a Dzire (up to 4 people). Add hotels at roughly ₹1,500–3,000 a night, plus small entry fees, the Dawki boat and a trek guide.

Where should I stay on a 7-day Meghalaya trip?

Three nights in Shillong, two in Sohra (Cherrapunji) for the root bridge trek, and one by the river at Shnongpdeng or Dawki.

Can I add Kaziranga to a Meghalaya trip?

Kaziranga is about 4.5–5 hours from Guwahati in the other direction, so it needs 2–3 extra days. Plan Meghalaya first, then Kaziranga, ending in Guwahati.
