Two days is short for Meghalaya, but it is enough for Shillong and the Cherrapunji waterfalls if you plan around the drive. Here is the plan that works, what to leave out, and what it costs.
Quick answer
In 2 days from Guwahati, do Shillong and Cherrapunji. Day 1: leave Guwahati by 7 AM, stop at Umiam Lake, then Shillong Peak, Elephant Falls and Ward's Lake, and spend the evening at Police Bazar. Day 2: leave Shillong by 7:30 AM for Cherrapunji (Mawkdok Valley, Nohkalikai Falls, Mawsmai Cave, Seven Sisters Falls), then drive back to Guwahati, about 4.5–5 hours from Sohra, arriving by about 8–9 PM. Leave Dawki, Mawlynnong and the root bridge treks for a longer trip. A car with driver for 2 days costs ₹9,120 in a Dzire (up to 4 people), fuel and driver included.

Why not Dawki in 2 days?
Dawki and Mawlynnong are about 3 hours from Shillong, and Dawki to Guwahati is 5–6 hours, so adding them means 9–10 hours in the car on one day. If the clear river is what you came for, swap Cherrapunji for Dawki and Mawlynnong on Day 2, but Cherrapunji is the better choice on a weekend because the drive back is shorter.
Have a third day?
With 3 days, keep Day 1 and Day 2 in Shillong and Cherrapunji, sleep in Shillong again, and do Dawki and Mawlynnong on Day 3 before heading to Guwahati, or use the 3-day plan.
Cost and booking
The car for both days is ₹9,120 in a Dzire (up to 4 people), ₹11,520 in an Ertiga or ₹13,200 in an Innova, with pickup and drop in Guwahati and fuel and driver included. Add one night in Shillong (about ₹1,500–3,000 for a mid-range room) and small entry fees. Book a few days ahead for weekends in October–December.
Prefer a one-way drop? Guwahati to Shillong alone costs ₹2,700.
